A new principal for the Neve Shalom Wahat al-Salam Primary School

Tuesday 22 May 2007

Anwar
Dawod, an educator and veteran member of Neve Shalom Wahat al Salam,
has been appointed headmaster of the village’s binational, bilingual,
multicultural Oasis of Peace Primary School, effective immediately. He
succeeds Faez Mansour, who announced his retirement this year.

Following
an extended search and screening process, Anwar was recommended for the
post by the search committee of the Board of Directors of the NSWAS
Educational System. The choice was confirmed unanimously by the full
board in mid-May.

Now 47 and a married father of
three, Anwar has been both a teacher and principal of the village’s
primary school in past years, as well as secretary-general (mayor) of
the village in 2001-2002. His prior experience at the primary school
will serve him well as he takes the helm again.

Anwar
attended Hebrew University in Jerusalem where he completed a BA In
Hebrew and Arabic literature and an MA in Second Language Education,
writing his thesis on the effects of attitude on learning aptitude. He also completed an MA in Political Science from Bar Ilan University. He
has considerable additional training in conflict resolution,
institutional management, leadership, and fundraising, from the Van
Leer Institute, Tavistock, SHATIL and elsewhere. Anwar has also worked
as a reporter with Al Ittihad newspaper in Jerusalem and, as an
undergraduate, was general secretary of the Union of Arab Students at
Israeli Universities.

Anwar lives in Neve Shalom
Wahat al Salam with his wife Nihaya, who teaches in the School for
Public Health at Hebrew University / Hadassah Hospital, daughter Sama,
18, and sons Saeed, 16, and Diyar, 7.
