Anti-war march in Tel Aviv

Saturday 22 July 2006

Many Neve Shalom Wahat al-Salam members participated in Saturday evening’s march, which brought several thousand Jewish and Palestinian Israeli citizens out in protest against the continuation of the war in Lebanon. Beginning from a much smaller demonstration on Sunday July 17 (in which NSWAS members also took part), anti-war activities are beginning to mount, thus breaking the seemingly absolute consensus (among Jewish Israelis) in favour of the war. The march was coordinated by several Jewish and Arab organizations on the left. Signs, slogans and speeches called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and a negotiated settlement.

Press Reports of the demonstration may be found in Haaretz and Ynet.

Gush Shalom’s website carries an article and more photos.
