Peace Process Meet held in Neve Shalom/Wahat al-Salam

On June 30 and July 1, 1997 a group of fifteen Jordanian, Palestinian and Israeli government delegates met in NS/WAS as part of the trilateral negotiations on water resource distribution. The meeting was one of a series sponsored by the European Union and coordinated by the Antea Company of France. Within the framework of the Middle East Peace Process, these two to three day meetings have been taking place over the past eighteen months on a quarterly basis, and are expected to continue for approximately another year.

The meeting in NS/WAS was attended by delegates from the respective Water Authorities, together with European experts in the field. The subject was "Regional Water Resources: Publication of Water Bulletins." The party stayed overnight at the NS/WAS guest house and held day-long discussions in a community hall. Lunch was served in NS/WAS? gourmet restaurant "The White Dove."

We have always considered that NS/WAS, with its foundation in grass roots peace work, could one day also become a natural venue for high level peace talks, and are encouraged that this role is beginning to be fulfilled.
