Garden of Rescuers
The Gariwo Garden of Rescuers at Wahat al-Salam/Neve Shalom (WASNS) was established to honor individuals and groups who have demonstrated extraordinary courage and humanity by rescuing others during times of peril. This tribute is not limited to any specific nation or religion, embracing heroes from all backgrounds who have risked their lives to save others. The Garden serves as a lasting reminder of their noble deeds and aims to inspire future generations to act with similar bravery and compassion.
The creation of the Garden is a testament to the universal values of altruism and empathy. Each year, the Garden becomes a sanctuary where stories of heroism are brought to light, showcasing acts of selflessness from around the globe. These narratives serve not only as historical records but also as powerful catalysts for fostering a culture of mutual respect and understanding. By celebrating these courageous acts, the garden helps to bridge cultural and national divides, reminding us of our shared humanity.
The quiet, shady olive trees, stone benches and view of the Shfela valley below invite all who walk into the Garden to sit and reflect, surrounded by the names of those rescuers.
Visitors to the Garden of Rescuers are encouraged to reflect on the importance of solidarity and the impact one person can make in the lives of others. Through educational programs and commemorative events, the garden seeks to engage the community and inspire action. It stands as a living monument to the enduring spirit of those who have gone above and beyond to save others, and as a call to each of us to embody these values in our own lives.
