Heaps: Mohammad Kundos at the Oasis Art Gallery

September 17, 2026

The Oasis Art Gallery at Neve Shalom Wahat al-Salam is presenting Heaps, an exhibition by Mohammad Kundos, a Palestinian Arab artist from Jaffa.

In this exhibition, Kundos repurposes fragments of tiles recovered from the ruins of demolished houses in Jaffa. Some were found among the rubble, while others were washed ashore by the sea. These fragments once formed part of Palestinian homes destroyed after 1948, in an attempt to erase the history and memory connected to them.

Kundos transforms the surviving pieces into artworks that carry the spirit of their original place and time. The material is not simply used as a sculptural medium; it becomes a witness to Jaffa’s history and to the lives that once filled its homes.

Rather than approaching the past through nostalgia, Kundos places it in dialogue with the present. His work raises questions about memory, belonging and whether loss can be transformed into an act of creation. The artworks do not document particular events or deliver a direct political message. Instead, the marks left by destruction, time and the sea are allowed to speak for themselves—their profound silence evoking what has been lost but not forgotten.

Curated by Dyana Shaloufi Rizek, Heaps is on display at the Oasis Art Gallery in Neve Shalom Wahat al-Salam from August 16 until November 12, 2026.
