Spiritual Center Renewal

July 8, 2025

The long-awaited, much-needed renovations have begun in the Spiritual Center. In the 25 years since the iconic center was established, it has not seen any kind of overhaul. They will continue until the end of August, including new landscaping all the way around.

“I have no doubt the place will look different — more beautiful and designed in a modern style both inside and out,” say Hezzi Schuster, director of the Spiritual Center.

Spiritual Center activities, both those hosted by the Center and those who rent space in the building, have temporarily relocated to other locations in the village. Thus, the hall of the library building was the scene for cultural evening that included dance, song, poetry and a moving tale of a unique life story. Dancers Sharon Hilleli Assa and Nairooz Qupty performed their dance “Two.”

Nour Darwish

Soprano Nour Darwish, who is a resident of the village, gave a stunning acapella performance. Afterward, dancer and choreographer Tamar Ben-Ami, who is battling a terminal illness, took the stage. She spoke movingly about her life, including her youthful love affair with the Palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish, and she read aloud poetry and prose.
