Artists:
Abdallah Kanaan, Dan Reisner, Karim Abu Shakra, Sara Banninga, Shireen Manassa, Vered Gersztenkorn, in addition to the curator, whose vision arises from a place of pain.
Dyana Shaloufi-Rizek acurator of the exhibition: “Since the goals and ambitions of the Oasis Art Gallery are to reach everyone from our country and around the world, it was clear from the start that I would not host a uninational exhibition—Palestinians or Jews separately. Instead, I chose to wait until both sides were calmer, more healed, and some were ready to return to a spirit of shared connection. This period strengthened my resolve and confidence in my commitment.
Since the beginning of this terrible war, I have also been searching for artists from both sides who were killed or badly injured, whose worlds were shattered, emotionally or physically. Some of them I knew, even if only through Facebook.
Time has passed slowly, painfully, and destructively. Each time I decided on a name for the upcoming exhibition, I found myself replacing it with another—similar or different in meaning—leaving me feeling even more drained.”
A time of destruction that we lived and still live… This exhibition is full of challenges, doubts and questions… Our responsibility is not to surrender, but to stay together for the sake of humanity and ethics emanating from the true light.
Since September, the exhibition has received a notable number of visitors, even without an official opening. During this time, I continued to add some pieces, but as the war persists, I have decided to stop doing so.
On November 15, the gallery will be hosting the elementary school staff, along with two facilitators from the Peace School. The exhibition provides them with a space to engage with current issues on personal, political, and conceptual levels in a safe environment—a strong example of our shared collaboration.
The gallery talk and exhibition closing will be held on November 22, 2024.
